TAX SALE !!!! This is our current billing status as of 2-12-2015. As you'll notice, our account is now on a "TAX SALE" notification. Considering we are 6+ months behind on our bills, it's little wonder.

Wow. What can you even say to that? I hope this is a wake up call for everyone and people start realizing how bad the situation really is. I don't know how much more proof people need to understand we need change. Metro is killing us.

UPDATE - 2/26/2015
I stopped at the BTMUA and asked about the procedures surrounding the Tax Sale Notice. Though they could not discuss the specifics about the Association's account they did tell me about their normal procedures.
Because they are a utility, and are able to lien a property the same as not paying your property taxes, a tax sale is done regularly each year for all accounts with balances that run pass the end of the previous year. So our large balance at the end of Dec 31, 2014 is up for tax sale.
Since the tax sale is handled by the Brick's Tax Clerk's office, I proceeded there. The tax clerk told me that she had emailed their contact at the MUA to get a detailed list of all properties affected by the proposed tax sale. As of the time of my visit, she did not yet have a list of unit properties. I was informed that, like any other tax sale, a third party buys the debt at auction and would have a lien on the entire property. It was also confirmed, that, being it would create a "cloud on title" of all the properties, no single owner could sell, transfer or otherwise change ownership on title without first resolving the tax certificate lien.
The tax sale date for Brick Twp is April 16, 2015.
The only solution to this is if the Association pays it's bill for 2014 in full prior to the sale date.

A little quick math here. (based on the meter readings on the billing)
The association has used 21,996,000 gals of water in the last 12 months.
If we were to assume a perfect world where every unit was occupied and using water... 21,996,000 divided by 366 units = 60,098 gals per year per unit. Since we didn't have leap year in 2014.... 60,098 divided by 364 days = 165 gals per day per unit.
If everyone had a 40 gallon water heater, then every single unit would have to empty it 4+ times every day of the year.
Now for some realty. Not all units are occupied, and they use zero amounts of water. Some people go on vacation one or more times a year. Some units only have one person living in them. This past year had a mild summer, so didn't add much for lawn watering. There were some major underground pipe leaks fixed. ...and on and on.
All of these non-use conditions adds to the amount of actual usage added to everyone else. That could mean that those of use living here year round ... using water year round ... and trying to conserve water ... are really being listed as using 70,000 to 80,000 gallons of water per year. And that's ridiculous.
One last notable observation. I can see why we would have an increase in usage for the summer months, due to more water use activities. But, why do we have an even bigger increase for the months of Nov, Dec, and Jan???
FYI - change in quarterly meter reading Feb-Apr 2014 5,544,000 gallons for this quarter May-Jul 2014 decrease from previous is -229,000 gallons Aug-Oct 2014 increase from previous is +210,000 gallons Nov'14-Jan'15 increase from previous is +267,000 gallons
Who needs a pool when it seems we're drowning in water.

Some things never change... Irresponsible and an embarrassment for those of us who pay our bills ON TIME. Over $70,000 balance!

Some things never change... Irresponsible and an embarrassment for those of us who pay our bills ON TIME. Over $70,000 balance! The real question is, if we use the old math; 257 units paying the extra $15 per month to cover the sewer. (this is not part of maintenance but directly due to BTMUA) (109 units are said to be non-payers, so 366 total units minus 109 non-payers equals 257 paying units)
So if we take the $15 and add the $40, we were told was the increase for water from a few years ago, and multiply it by 257 paying units and multiply that by five months for this year....
257 paying units x 55 (this is from $15+$40) x 5 months _____________________ $70,675 collected by Metro's office
We were billed for 2 quarters in 2015 (not including the extra interest) $ 92,242.
92,242 billed -70,675 collected _______________ 21,567 this should be our current overdue balance. (not including the extra interest)
Why are we roughly $50,000 more on what we owe? Why are we continuing to incur interest fees? Why wasn't the money we paid to Metro's office, used to pay our bills? Where's the money?

I'm with you. It doesn't add up. I've had a problem accepting the water billing since I moved here. On a personal level I am paying waaaay to much for one person. Top it off by my association not being responsible with MY/OUR money.

More interest costs for non-payment.We saw a rush to pay off most of 2014's balance, that threatened us with a "tax sale", during the first 3 months of 2015. Since we keep paying very late, we keep paying extra for interest fees. As we have turned the calendar page to June, we also see an additional $ 561.51 added to our bill. Month after month, we don't pay our bills and we keep getting extras to pay. Many thousands of dollars last year, and still on track to do the same in 2015. It makes you wonder "why aren't we saving money and paying our bills on time?" OH WAIT!!! We are paying our bills on time. We give it to Metro Associates to take care of paying it on time. So why do our bills keep being paid several months late?Attachments:

Note the bill for last Nov, Dec and Jan remains unpaid. It was a bald-faced lie that last year's water/sewer bill was paid in full as was announced by a board member at the general meeting in Jan 2015 and Apr 2015. Just one lie of so many!!!

Update: 5-20-2015 to 6-23-2015No new payments made. I know most of us are paying our new increased maintenance fees. Yet we did have an increase of interest charged to our account. A nice $1,193+ in this short four weeks. Fortunately, it's just money. Maybe it went to pay for new shrubbery and fencing to keep people from driving on the lawns? Something that requires additional maintenance and additional costs, for something that failed at stopping what it was supposed to do. Attachments:
