I think there was a huge turnout last night and it was exciting to see so many people show up. I know there were interested people that couldn’t make it so the number would have been even higher if they were able to come. I think it’s great that everyone is coming together and trying to do something about the issues. Last night’s meeting showed that there is hope and we can do it. It’s going to be a long road but if we stick with it I think it will be rewarding. The women that were there last night from Laurelton Woods made me believe it can happen. I also thought the guy from Comet seemed genuine and again it made me feel like there is something FAR better out there than Paul Hayes (lets be real, can it really get any worse?). I hope we all see this through to the end. Dennis has put so much time and effort into making it better for all of us, not just himself so we can’t let him down and make it all for nothing! For as long as I have been here, I really don’t know any of my neighbors but I think when this is all over, we are going to be one happening community

The meeting was great, informative, energizing and the turnout, was just as sbrett described. I wish to thank everyone for coming and to the dozens who wanted to come and couldn't make it, we'll look forward to seeing you at the next meeting. A special thanks to our guests, from the other association, who volunteered their time to speak with us, about their journey to fixing their own board and management problems. They are proof of how they removed Metro Associates from their own board and so can we. Definite thanks to our guests from the Comet Management who outlined a full list of possible advantages to the change we are working towards. While still being very open to the work ahead of us. I am grateful for the attorney, from McGovern Legal Svcs, for spending so much time detailing out the processes we will take to remove a broken board and install a viable and effective board. A summary of topics at the 9-30-2014 meeting:Comet Management - Craig Thompson spoke to us about how another association worked and managed to regain control of their board and association. Today, the association is finishing a large portion of the most major repairs. Now, they are about to embark on the next phase of long overdue maintenance repairs.
- Craig and our association guests, told us of the obvious and distinct violations of by-laws; oppressive attitudes from the former management; and the corruption of the organization to prevent discovery.
- An outline of what we can obtain for ourselves.
- Regular communications between the members and board and management.
- Financial reporting to the board on a monthly time frame (instead of yearly)
- Property management that works for and at the direction of the board. (instead of a board owned by the property manager)
- Contractors who have qualified workers to perform repairs and services with professionalism and are skilled. (instead of fly-by-night workers who are clueless)
- Being able to see our financial account balance increase with reserve amounts (instead of constantly running in the red and standing at the edge of bankruptcy)
- A road of hard work ahead. And a Path to the Community we were buying into.
[/ul] McGovern Legal Services - Michael explained portions of our by-laws and a general understanding of the legalities involved with how our board is to behave and its performance of how "WE" "THE ASSOCIATION" intend to have the association's business conducted.
- It was also noted the organization of the association.
- 'We - the association'
- 'We - the association' elect a board of 5
- The board appoints officers
- The board "Hires" a property manager (individual or company)
- The property manager or board hires the contractors needed to manage the repairs, maintenance, legal services, accountant and all other needs
- ***At no time does the property manager run the board***
- We discussed the use of "proxy" ballots for the an election of the new board of directors.
- ***Everyone can expect to see ballots ready to sign shortly.
We also had questions answered by each of our guests. This was greatly appreciated. Each of our guests have offered to continue with help in our efforts to fix our community, as well as, offers of collaborations to develop and expand our effectiveness and strengthen our focus on our community. We also asked for volunteers and interested people to join our committee to keep spreading the word to reach everyone. I also asked for volunteers for knocking on doors, passing out flyers, talking to other members, getting proxies ballots signed. In closing: I can't thank everyone enough for your amazing unity of purpose, aimed at fixing our board and management and move our community back in the direction we have not seen in years. Towards a community we came here for.
FYI - for those interested in the numbers. We had approximately 60 people show up at the meeting. Many were standing for a long time, as the conference room was packed. Many were in the halls only able to listen. Everyone was great.

Thank you so much for sharing the info and doing so much of this organization. Hopefully, we as a community can continue this ball rolling and really succeed in making a positive change.

I concur with sbrett. I would like to thank Dennis again for all his efforts, his time and energy is benefiting all of us. We owe it to him and ourselves to be as supportive and active as possible to come together and be present in the community where we live and take charge of our homes. Attend the meetings, volunteer for a committee. If everyone does something, it will come together. There are power in numbers. Make suggestions. Every person has something to contribute. Not only will it benefit everyone financially with improving the community and our home's equity, it brings us together. It is nice to get to know your neighbors and get back the community that once was. I would like to nominate Dennis as president of the association.

If we could get one person per building to represent those 8 units that would be grand. Enough to manage in our busy work schedules but not too overwhelming to handle.
